Neuroimaging Equipment

Imaging data at the UCI campus is provided in conjunction through the Research Imaging Center. Both 1.5T and 4T scanners are available for prospecitve studies.

The GCRC Neuroimaging Core is comprised of an isolated cluster of computers dedicated to the retrieval, processing, analysis, and storage of data of central nervous system images.

Neuroimaging Hardware

PowerLab/8SP, Model No. ML785

A high-performance data acquisition system suitable for a wide range of life science research applications that require up to 8 input channels.

The PowerLab/8SP features:
- Eight single-ended analog inputs
- Two independent stimulator outputs
- External trigger input and signal triggering
- Wide range of low pass filters
- AC or DC coupling
- Digital inputs and outputs for external instrument control
- SCSI and USB interface for connection to Windows and MacOS computers
- The unit is capable of recording at speeds of up to 200 000 samples per second continuously to disk, and is compatible with instruments, signal conditioners and transducers carried by ADInstruments, as well as many other brands.
The PowerLab/8SP is shipped with PowerLab software (Chart, Scope, and Chart Extensions), and associated manuals and cables.
Grass Telefactor High Performance AC Preamplifiers for Evoked Potentials, EEG, EMG, ERG

This new IP511 with built-in isolation provides maximum safety and can be used for extracellular recordings from nerve and muscle for years, such as EMG, EEG, ECG and ERG. Patient isolation is achieved with DC/DC converters and iso-amplifiers and meets the requirements of IEC-601-1.

Magstim® Model 200² Monophasic Stimulator P/N 3010-00

Magnetic nerve stimulators work by inducing electrical currents in tissue using a non-invasive stimulating coil. The stimulating coil is placed near the intended site of stimulation and trigger pulses initiate brief magnetic pulses. The magnetic fields can pass through clothing, tissue and bone to reach otherwise inaccessible areas. One feature of magnetic stimulation is that it is unable to stimulate pain fibers at the skin surface, reducing the discomfort when compared with conventional electrical stimulation. A variety of standard stimulating coils, custom coils and output waveforms are available to suit different areas of application.

Brainsight-Frameless Image guidance system

Brainsight-Frameless is a stereotactic image guidance system that facilitates the positioning of transcranial magnetic stimulator coils over a subject's brain. It can display the coil and targets (derived from MRI / fMRI images) on anatomical MR images, providing an interactive navigational guide for coil positioning. The system has been developed in conjunction with a number of distinguished neurological institutes and universities worldwide.
- Coil registration
  the system allows the user to register and record the position and orientation of the coil at the time of stimulation for later review and correlation with the response data
- Target site
  selection by either identifying an anatomical location on the screen, or by importing coordinates from an additional software analysis programme (e.g. DICOM, ACR / NEMA, Analyze, MINC).
- Real time coil positioning
  updates allow users to orient the stimulating coil over the desired target.
- Dedicated hardware
  the subject and coil holder system has been specifically developed for Image-Guided TMS to maintain the association between the stimulating coil and head of the subject.

IGlasses PC-HR Head Mounted Display
