Children at Play: A Photo Contest - Rules

You hear it all the time. Kids have forgotten how to play. Well, we can’t have that. So, the Orange County Register and UC Irvine’s Pediatric Exercise Research Center are turning loose all you amateur photographers out there in a contest to photograph the joys of “Children at Play.”

In an effort to raise community awareness about how physical activity in childhood and adolescence influences health throughout life, we want to see children at play in all their venues and variations. Show us healthy children and children with disabilities or challenges. Showcase team efforts or spotlight individual efforts. Even that toddler’s first steps are fair game.

So get out that digital camera, get your kids out on the playground, the sports field, the back yard, and start snapping.

Amateur photographers living in Orange County are eligible to enter.
Photos will be judged in one of two categories: Photos by adults or photos taken by youths 14 and younger.
Digital photos should be of the highest quality possible with a minimum resolution of 640 x 480 and in JPEG format.
Photos may be color or black and white.
All photos must include required identifying information and a signed release form to be considered for prizes.
Photos will be screened and judged by a committee of Orange County Register and UC Irvine representatives.
Winners and prizes will be announced Sept. 23.

About the Pediatric Exercise Research Center:
PERC was established in 2006 under the leadership of pediatrician Dr. Dan Cooper. The mission of the center, located on the UC Irvine campus, is to advance pediatric exercise medicine through clinical and laboratory research, provide preventative and rehabilitative exercise plans for infants, children and young adults, and to foster community partnerships to encourage physical activity in children.
