The mission of the Informatics Core (IC) is to ensure that investigators with GAC-approved protocols obtain the informatics services they require for the success of their research. To achieve this the IC consults with investigators during all stages of clinical research - from
protocol development to final data archiving - offering informatics expertise and services.
The informatics core is located at the Hewitt Hall of the Clinical Research Center in Irvine, California. The facility is connected to the UCI backbone via existing Local Area Network with speed of 100mbps. A total of 25 workstations, 5 notebook PC, and 7 network printers support UCI GCRC basic computing needs for administrative, nursing, bionutrition, Human performance lab, and bioinformatics cores. A Compaq Proliant 1500 multiprocessor server rated at Pentium II 400Mhz with 1GB RAM, 40 GB hard drive serves as the heart of the informatics core. The server runs on Microsoft Windows 2000 Server and provides GCRC users and investigators centralized data storage area. The research documents and data on the file server is backed up daily using Computer Associates BrightStor ArcServe Backup version 9.0.
